| Center for the Assessment and Monitoring of Forest and Environmental Resources (CAMFER) |
CAMFER
is dedicated to providing innovative, state-of-the-art monitoring of environment
using geospatial technologies (GIS, GPS and Remote Sensing). CAMFER research
and outreach staff conduct studies in wetland monitoring and modeling,
atmospheric emissions, forest biometrics, and watershed modeling, among
other topics. |
| California
Biodiversity Center (CBC) |
The
California Biodiversity Center (CBC) fosters collaborations between the
Berkeley Natural History Museums, Berkeley's Natural History Field Stations,
and other partners studying changes in California's biological diversity,
past, present, and future. |
| Center for Sustainable Resource Development | The
mission of the CSRD is to provide science-based leadership in the identification
and implementation of sustainable development strategies, that effectively
balances concerns for efficiency, environmental conservation and social
equity. |
| Center for Biological Control | The
Center for Biological Control at the University of California-Berkeley,
facilitates the implementation of biological control through research, training
and extension programs, supports meetings and workshops for intellectual
discussion, and provides a structure for the development of interagency
cooperation for biological control activities. |
| Integrated Hardwood Range Management Program (IHRMP) | IHRMP
was established in 1986 to ensure sustainability of the State's 10 million
acres of hardwood rangelands. Its mission is to maintain, and where possible,
increase acreage of California's hardwood range resources to provide wildlife
habitat, recreational opportunities, wood and livestock products, high quality
water supply, and aesthetic value. |
| California Oak Mortality Task Force (COMTF) | The
California Oak Mortality Task Force (COMTF) focuses on the plant pathogen
Phytophthora ramorum, which can have devastating effects in the wildlands
it inhabits and has had substantial impacts on the nursery industry internationally.
|
| Center for Forestry | The
Mission of the Center for Forestry is to sustain forested ecosystems through
scientific inquiry. Our approach is comprehensive. We seek to create and
disseminate knowledge concerning ecosystem processes, human interactions
and value systems, and restoration and operational management practices.
|
The
Energy and Resources Group (ERG) is an interdisciplinary academic unit of
the University of California at Berkeley, conducting programs of graduate
teaching and research that treat issues of energy, resources, development,
human and biological diversity, environmental justice, governance, global
climate change and new approaches to thinking about economics and consumption.
|
|
| Center for Fire Research and Outreach | The goal of the Center is to serve as a focal point for science-based solutions to fire-related challenges. |
| Biological Imaging Facility | |
| Geographic Information Science Center (GISC) | The
fundamental mission of the center is to raise the level of GIS expertise
on the entire campus and to stimulate cross disciplinary education, research,
and cooperation using these technologies. |
| Geospatial Imaging and Informatics Facility | The Geospatial Imaging and Informatics Facility supports
research & outreach activities of those
interested in geospatial analysis utilizing remote sensing,Geographical
Information Systems, spatial analysis, landscape ecology, visualization,
and Global Positioning Systems technology. |
| Center for Stable Isotope Biogeochemistry | This
state of art Mass Spectrometry facility provides the campus and wider community
with stable isotope analysis of gaseous, liquid and solid samples. |
| Scientific Visualization Center | Located
in the Valley Life Sciences Building, the Scientific Visualization Center
(SVC) provides the campus community, primarily faculty and students in the
Department of Integrative Biology, the resources to explore the motion and
morphology of life in all its many forms using computer and video imaging.
|
| MVZ's Laboratory for evolutionary genetics | Many
researchers in the MVZ are collecting genetic data to untangle evolutionary
history and/or to test behavioral hypotheses. The Museum and Department
of Integrative Biology maintain a state-of-the-art shared genetics lab,
occupying several rooms on the 4th floor of the VLSB. The lab is equipped
for DNA extraction, PCR amplification, agarose gel electrophoresis, allozyme
electrophoresis, DNA sequencing, microsatellite development and screening,
AFLP screening, library construction, cloning, and preliminary data analysis.
|
| Electron Microscope Laboratory | The
Electron Microscope Laboratory (EML) is located in 26 Giannini Hall in the
North basement. The EML is an instruction and research unit of the College
of Letters and Sciences, providing EM services to the Berkeley campus and
the academic community at large. |
| Marian Koshland Bioscience and Natural Resources Library | The
Library at UC Berkeley contains one of the finest research collections in
the country. The Library consists of Doe Library, the Bancroft Library,
Moffitt Library, and more than 20 subject specialty libraries serving a
variety of academic disciplines. The Marian Koshland Bioscience and Natural
Resource Library is house in the Valley Life Sciences Building and is one
of the largest subject specialty libraries on the Berkeley campus with over
542,000 volumes. |
| Water Resources Center Archives | |
| Glasshouses, Insectary & Quarantine Facility | The Oxford Tract, just across the road from the main UC Berkeley campus, encompasses an area which houses the North greenhouse facility, South Greenhouse Facility, Natural resource Laboratory, Insectary Greenhouse, Insectary, 1.5 acres of open field planting space and an instructional garden classroom. The Insectary and Quarantine facility provides insect-rearing support and quarantine facilities for experiments with non-natives. |
|
The
richness and depth of the ecology research at Berkeley is shown by the sheer
wealth of seminar series on campus. A weekly compilation of talks on ecology,
evolution and environmental science topics is maintained by the California
Biodiversity Center here. |
